  7. Manual removal by other means, such as using mods for console commands. Any reduction in stack size at any point should automatically trigger the removal effect.
  • Prayer Beads levels are seen as a buff, with the number of effects indicating the amount of levels stored.
  • Any method of removal will completely drain the buff stacks, and payout based on the amount cleared, regardless of how many copies of the item were involved in the removal. (Notably, SotV IconSotV IconSurvivors of the Void - DLC Content

may not be properly interacting if it removes beads during stage transition, draining the buffs without paying stats. This requires more testing to be certain the cause)
  • Prayer Beads increase Health, regen, and Damage; the same stats as normal level-ups. The typical ratio for level-ups is 30% of base for health, and 20% for damage and regen. Essentially, for each prayer bead level at 1 stack, you gain 20% of a normal level-up (6% base for health, and 4% for damage and regen). The final amount gained will vary in practice based on item stack size and how many buffs are stored at the time of payout.
  • There is currently a bug in how prayer bead item stacks are calculated upon removal, where the stack size is checked after the item has been removed from the inventory. As a result, the stats gained will act as though the player had less stacks of the item than they had prior to removal. As scrappers remove items in chunks of 10, this creates a large deviance in the expected payouts, and for any less than a stack of size 11, will end with the game paying out as though the player had 0 stacks of the item (each buff stack translating to 15% of a level instead of 20%). This also means that, when using a scrapper, any stack size <11 rewards the same stat benefits for any given buff count, as any amount from 1-10 will end with 0 remaining. Using a cauldron, printer, or etc. to remove fewer at once can bypass this problem.
  • The stacking behavior for the stat payouts is 20% + 5% * stacks - 1. Therefore, when the above case attempts to pay out with 0 stacks remaining, you will receive 20% + -5%, or 15%, as the expected payout. Effectively this means that if you have 1 bead item, you need 7 bead buffs to be as effective as a level up, not 5.
  • The amount of experience stored is affected by stack size, meaning more beads will cause you to store levels more quickly. This means that stacking the item isn't useless, even if you end up using a scrapper with <11 stacks in the inventory.
  • The amount of experience stored is affected to some extent by how many stats you have gained in the run via prayer beads, meaning that it will take longer and longer to reach the same amount of stored level buffs, even if the item stack sizes end up the same (for example by using a beads printer to print one copy of beads, lowering the stack by 1 but immediately giving 1 back after payout). This needs a bit more deconstruction to be fully understood.
  • Prayer beads confirm that their stored stats are >0 before adding them. This means that they won't increase the degeneration rate of the Heretic HereticHereticHereticThe Heretic is a powerful character who can only be accessed through extraordinary means.

    Umbra: Unorthodoxy Risen
, rather they will not affect her regen at all if the stored regen is <0.
  • Prayer beads check the level-up stats of the current character when paying out, and store that value rather than a percent. This means that changing character will not change the stored stats; an example would be gaining damage stats while playing as Acrid AcridAcridAcridAcrid is a melee-range hybrid who uses powerful poisons to melt tanky enemies.

, who has a base damage of 15, and then switching characters somehow (like by using the MetamorphosisArtifact of Metamorphosis) to someone else. , whose base damage is 12, you would now have a base damage of 27. Had you stored 5 levels worth as Commando instead, you would only store 12 and have a base damage of 24. This means that, while using something like the Artifact of Metamorphosis, it is worth strategizing when to remove your prayer beads based on your current character.
